Chapter 4: Controlling the Information That Makes Your Brand

Chapter 4: Controlling the Information That Makes Your Brand

“He, who controls the present, controls the past. He, who controls the past, controls the future.” – George Orwell

So now we understand a little bit about branding. And now we know that employers are trying to figure out your brand. Keep in mind whether you consciously decided to make a brand for yourself or not, you still have a brand. Most people call it your “personality.” But in reality your personality IS your brand.

The question moving forward is…is your “personality” being portrayed in the right light? Remember, everything is subjective and from here on out you need to start putting your self in the shoes of the beholder. Are you the “serious results driven top executive, who was manager of the year 2 years running?” Or are you the “filthy drunk slob slurring into your YouTube® video talking about how much you hate people?” Of course, you want to “be” the personality (character) that represents a “positive” good character.

The Law of Attraction

In regards to developing a good character this is where you will start to learn about the “Law of Attraction”.  It is one of the more important universal laws you will want to master!

Generally speaking, the Law of Attraction is defined by positive thinking and that if you hold true to a positive thought and believe it to be true it will be true.

However, there is another Law of Attraction I’m talking about and it is more literal.

The “Law of Attraction”, is your actions and what say that “attract” people to you! It doesn’t mean sex appeal, but means “energy.” It is positive energy that you project that makes people simply want to be around you, or associated with you (like a brand).

Examples of this law of action could be the “reasons” why you are attracted to your boyfriend, girlfriend, or why you might get “star struck” when you see a famous person, or the respect you give to your pastor or preacher or even teacher in school. They are the “things” “that pull” you to respect and like people.

Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich”, shows you what he’s talking about in his video below. I highly recommend you have a listen. And I highly recommend you buy his book, “The Law of Attraction too in order to better understand this important universal law.

Controlling the information that’s publicly out there is very important to your job, search and branding activities. Even when you do get hired sometimes there are things that can not be “controlled” by you!  This is why we will discuss soon, ways to control that type of information and what to look out for.
